Two prospects contributing to their teams in different ways will be in the spotlight on Tuesday evening when Jose Fermin and the Cardinals of St. Louis will face Drew Gilbert and the Giants of San Francisco in the pursuit of a series of three games.
Fermin made two shots, marked a race and rolled in another while the cardinals opened the set with a 6-5 victory on Monday evening which attracted Saint-Louis (77-80) even with San Francisco (77-80) in the race of the National League.
Each team is 3 1/2 games from the last place in the playoff series with only five games to play.
Fermin helped keep the cardinals alive with a pair of doubles in the opening of the series. One of the most vocal men in baseball between Triple-A and the majors this season, the 26-year-old championship player took advantage of his last call, doubling three times and driving in four points in two games since he joined the big club in Memphis on Wednesday.
Both strokes increased the average firm’s major league season on Monday to 0.315 in 25 games. He only reached .155 for the cardinals last year, but he beat 0.300 in 65 games in Triple-A this season.
“I’m super happy for him,” said teammate Victor Scott II about Fermin. “He works his, so seeing him go is great.”
