A Squad suicide actor was shocked when James Gunn de DC killed them

James Gunn’s supervillain film in 2021 “The Suicide Squad” was a quasi-sequence of David Ayer’s film “Suicide Squad”, but he could have worked as well as a remake. The premise of the two films is fun: several colorful super-vilains, each with their own nicknames and gadgets, were apprehended by the authorities and thrown into a maximum security prison. They then receive a bloody ultimatum: rot in prison or reduce their sorrows by participating in dangerous military missions … assuming that they can go alive. Consequently, these bad guys are forced to engage in a mission for a good cause (in theory, at least).

Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) appears in these two films, just like Amanda Walker (Viola Davis), the brain behind the squadrons of bad guys. Ayer’s film is rough and grainy, while Gunn has the usual sensitivity of the director’s cartoon. They are both very violent films, however, and everyone has an unexpected death handful.

Jai Courtney played the rather absurd character of Captain Boomerang in Ayer’s film, and he was postponed to the follow -up of Gunn, although briefly. Gunn’s film begins with a fanciful sequence in which several characters are presented as members of the titular team, Boomerang among them. However, when the night beach for which they were recruited go south, this translates into a mass scene, most of the perish team. As for Boomerang? He struck by several flying flashes of razed wooden tilt a tree nearby by an overwhelming helicopter, only to die when the helicopter explodes right next to him. That’s it. He came out.

Joel Kinnaman plays the character of Rick Flag Jr. in the films of Ayer and Gunn, and he has since resumed his role in the Spin-Off HBO Max well received series of Gunn “Peacemaker”. Appearing opposite Gunn and other members of the distribution of the program on the official podcast of “Peacemaker”, the actor revealed that Courtney had no idea that Boomerang was going to be offered so early in “The Suicide Squad” – and was not too happy that his agents did not give him a head.

Jai Courtney had no idea that Captain Boomerang would die so quickly in the Squad suicide

It seems that Courtney did not learn the early disappearance of Boomerang until he finally received the “The Suicide Squad” script from Gunn. Although this turn of events is funny, and the sudden suppression of an inherited character is slightly shocking, Courtney assumed that he would have more to do in the film. Therefore, as Kinnaman pointed out, his co-star was not exactly delighted when he learned that this would not be the case. To directly cite the Kinnaman:

“I know I told me that no one had told him. It’s not funny, really […] He got it. He is delighted to read the script. He dies on page four, 10 or something. And no one told him. And he says to himself: “Ah, I can’t wait to read this James Gunn script with my character, Captain Boomerang, taking up his role.” And he finds himself completely cut […] But his agents were told. “”

It seems nasty of the agents of Courtney to keep him the truth. Maybe they had a little sneer at their expense. Courtney, however, took the job in stride, dying with Aplomb. He also appeared in the amusing actuator “Jolt” the same year and continued to work regularly since then. In 2025 alone, he played in the serial killer thriller / shark “Dangerous animals” and the mini-series “American Primeval”.

“Suicide Squad” and “The Suicide Squad” were part of the extensive DC universe, a franchise that ended after a decade in 2023. The property has since been restarted as the shorter DC universe, which is supervised by Gunn and Peter Safran. Not only that, but the television show “Peacemaker” and its titular character (John Cena) also migrated to the DCU, starting with the second season of the series. Is it possible that Captain Boomerang de Courtney will join them at some point? Death, after all, is rarely permanent in superhero franchises, so Courtney may want to ask his agents to listen to a call, just in case.

Although, if he gets this call, let’s just hope that his agents tell him about everything this time.
