Knicks signs Matt Ryan, Alex Len to compete for spots

The Knicks offer opportunities and an Abu Dhabi experience to a mixture of familiar veterans and new newcomers.
The team has locked its 21 training camp players this week, publishing a large group of signatures before the day of the media on September 23.
Matt Ryan, 28, who played 19 games for the Knicks last season, and Alex Len, 32, who has spent most of the last four seasons with the Kings, agreed to deal with New York, as the post reported.
They are now among several knicks on Nonguarantied contracts in the running for list places in the camp – although with Ryan and Len as the biggest long shots to make the final team – with the first pre -season games planned for Abu Dhabi on October 2 and 4 against the Sixers.
As previously indicated, the Knicks signed three veterans with non -working agreements – Malcolm Brogdon, Landry Shamet and Garrison Mathews – who are considered the best candidates to make the final cup.
In the current state of things, the Knicks contain only the cap space to keep a veteran on a guaranteed agreement. But the people of the league believe that they will trade to free another slit, allowing Leon Rose to keep Brogdon and Shamet.
Brogdon, a recent winner of the sixth man of the year, is expected to be a play of rotation, said a source. Mathews, who officially signed his Nonguranted contract on Tuesday, is also in competition for a place, but Shamet and Brogdon hold the interior track.
Mohamed Diawara, the choice of Knicks in the second round this year, has been officially signed and should make the final list.
The Knicks also locked their three two -lane spots – which are generally reserved for young players who spend most of the season in the G -League – by signing the former striker of the Nets Tosan Evbuomwan, the former striker of the Lakers Trey Jemison III and the choice of recovery in 2024 Kevin McCullar Jr., said sources.
Neither Ryan nor Len can sign bidirectional contracts because they have exceeded the maximum number of NBA seasons for eligibility.
Last season, Ryan, who grew up in the county of Westchester and attended Iona Prep, joined the Knicks in early November and was briefly part of the rotation of Tom Thibodeau.
It was canceled in March and has just signed. Now he will at least get pre-season work and a trip from Abu Dhabi.
Len is familiar to the coach of the new Knicks, Mike Brown, who led to the old choice n ° 5 for three seasons in Sacramento.
The Knicks also worked Dennis Smith Jr., but do not take him to the camp.
