Madeleine McCann Suspect Rebout Bown met a police interview

The first suspect in the highly publicized case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann refused to be questioned by the metropolitan police, the force said.

The MET said that an international request letter had been sent to Christian Brückner, before his imminent release for a separate offense, to speak to them that he rejected later.

German national Brückner, 49, has never been charged in the McCann case and denies his participation.

Madeleine disappeared in the Portuguese complex of Praia da Luz in 2007, shortly after her parents’ departure, Kate and Gerry McCann, who dinner in a neighboring restaurant.

Brückner is currently serving a sentence of seven years in prison in Germany for the rape of a 72 -year -old woman at her home in Praia Da Luz in 2005.

He could potentially be released on Wednesday.

DET CH Mark Cranwell inspector said Brückner remains a suspect in the MET police investigation on Madeline’s disappearance.

“We asked for an interview with this German suspect, but, for legal reasons, this can only be done via an international letter of request that has been submitted,” said Det CH Cranwell.

“He was then refused by the suspect.

“We cannot provide any other information while the investigation is underway.”

Almost two decades since the disappearance of Madeleine, he has become one of the cases of an unresolved who are the most prominent in the world.

Earlier this year, German prosecutors highlighted evidence suggesting that Brückner was perhaps in the region when Madeleine disappeared.

Elsewhere in June, the Portuguese and German police carried out a new search of land in Lagos – between where the McCann had remained and were addressed to Brückner, but that did not give up.

The research teams use a retro shovel next to an abandoned and abandoned property near Praia de Luz, Portugal, where research is carried out by officers investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, in the countryside a few kilometers from the station where it was seen for the last time in 2007.

Brückner was not identified as a suspect in his disappearance until 2020.

Due to differences in legal systems, the German authorities suspect Brückner of the murder in connection with Madeleine, while the British police continue to deal with his disappearance as a matter of missing persons.

However, no accusation has never been brought against Brückner in the case of Madeleine, and the complete details of the alleged evidence has never been published.

In 2023, the investigators carried out research near the Arade reserve dam, about 30 miles from Praia da Luz.

Brückner spent time in the Praia da Luz region between 2000 and 2017 and had photographs and videos of itself near the tank.

In October of last year, Brückner was authorized by an unrelated German Infractions Court, which would have taken place in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.

The funding for the MET’s survey on the disappearance of Madeleine, entitled Operation Grange, has totaled more than 13.2 million pounds sterling since 2011. Another £ of £ 108,000 was obtained from the government in April.
