Seville Seville of Jamaica sprouts at a 100 meter victory at the 2025 world athletics championships, upsetting the reigning Olympic champion Noah Lyles.

On the female side, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, from South Carolina, established a 10.61 seconds championship time to garnish the podium in Tokyo. It was the fourth fastest time published by a woman at the distances.

Seville finished with a better time of 9.77 seconds. His teammate, Kishane Thompson, finished second with 9.82, while Lyles finished third at 9.89 seconds.

Lyles, who was hampered by an injury to the foot this spring, won gold last summer at the Paris Olympic Games in 9.79 seconds, beating Thompson in a photo. He will later participate this week in the 200m event, his specialty.

“It was a short season with an injury, not many races to my credit,” said Lyles. “But, hey, every time I presented myself here, I ran faster and better than ever. I was very excited by the things I saw today.”

Seville’s victory was the first of the Jamaican event from Usain Bolt at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Jefferson-Wooden continued his Stellar 2025 season not having lost a 100m race.

She was followed by Tina Clayton of Jamaica, who ran 10.76, while Olympic champion Julien Alfred de Sainte-Lucie finished third with once from 10.84.

“I felt out [ahead]Then I passed out after that, thinking of “arriving at the line”, “told Jefferson-Wooden to BBC Sport.” I saw my time and it struck me, oh my God that I won!

“I arrived as a hunter, I have never been world champion or Olympic champion at the 100m. There will be a target on my back next year, so I will understand how to sail.”

The American Sha’Carri Richardson, the defending world champion, finished fifth in 10.94.
