In the wake of the Tomorrow box-office flop, The Weeknd admits that its 19% rotten HBO series of tomatoes was “half cooked”

It was not a great weekend to The Weeknd. The last project of the singer and songwriter – the film companion Hurry up tomorrowwhich is linked to his latest studio album of the same name – has been massacred by critics, which until now seem to suit that even the talents of Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) And Barry Keoghan (Salinburn) can save the weak intrigue of the film. While addressing The Guardian last week, the artist spoke about his previous project, who also had bad reception.
The idol was a five-episoded HBO mini-series that made its debut in 2023. The weekend created the show with Sam Levinson (Euphoria), And criticisms did not like it at all – the show has a lamentable score of 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. During the interview, The Weeknd admitted that many factors have embarrassed production, including the pandemic. According to the singer, everyone stretched so thin than a certain point, he just wanted to be finished and move on. He said:
“People cared about it, that’s for sure. But I think it came to a point where everyone was trying to go to the finish line. You can’t force something, you just have to let it be anything, even if it’s half cooked.”
What is “the idol” talking about?
It is easy to see the potential of the story that The idol meant. He follows Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), a famous singer who wants to make a determining career album. To do this, however, she recruits Tedros (The Weeknd) as a producer – a man as talented as toxic and abusive. It is a theme difficult to approach, and criticisms agreed that the series favored the shock value compared to a complex history. No coincidence, HBO canceled the project after a season and with a shorter number of episodes than originally planned.
The weekend also admitted to the Guardian that the series obtaining a “meaning” criticism and added:
“It could have been great if it had a start, an environment and an end. It ended in the middle. ”
Now history is repeated with Hurry up tomorrow. Currently 16% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is even worse in review than The idol. At the box office, the first weekend of the film collected just over 3 million dollars, which put it outside the top 5 of the most profitable films of the week at the national level. After that, the chances that the film climbs on the graph is slim, especially when you consider that Mission: Impossible – The last calculation is about to take the first.
