The South Koreans detained in Ice Raid on the Hyundai electric vehicle site in Georgia
The American immigration authorities have descended in a manufacturing site of massive hyundai in Georgia, leading to the arrest of more than 450 people, according to one of the agencies involved in the operation.
The 3,000 acres site, built by the Korean car manufacturer to manufacture electric vehicles, has been operational for a year.
The Ministry of Internal Security told the American BBC CBS News partner that the agents had executed a search warrant due to allegations of “illegal employment practices and other serious federal crimes”.
Korean nationals were one of the detained persons, said the South Korean Foreign Affairs, describing it as a “unfair violation” of their rights.
In an article on X, the Atlanta office of the alcohol, tobacco, firearm and explosives office said that it had joined a number of other agencies, including ice (immigration and customs application) to stop 450 “illegal foreigners” in the Bryan County factory.
We do not know how many South Koreans have been detained.
“The economic activities of Korean investment companies and the rights and interests of Korean citizens should not be unjustly raped during the US laws of the law enforcement,” the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The ministry added that he sent diplomats to the site.
“In Seoul, we have also expressed our concerns and regret today by the United States Embassy in Korea and have urged them to show extreme caution to ensure that the legitimate rights and interests of Korean citizens are not raped.”
The South Korean companies have promised to invest billions of dollars in the main American industries in the coming years, partly as a means of avoiding prices.
The state governor, the Republican Brian Kemp, had praised Hyundai’s new electric vehicle operation as the largest economic development project in state history, employing 1,200 people.
Research by federal agencies had also closed the construction of an adjacent battery plant, reports CBS News.
President Trump campaigned for his second term according to the back of a commitment to make mass deportations of undocumented immigrants, although he said that priority would be those who have committed crimes.
