The Ministry of Justice increases in Lisa Cook investigation

The Ministry of Justice has taken additional measures in its investigation into the allegations of mortgage fraud against the governor of the federal reserve, Lisa Cook, said a person familiar with the case at NBC News.
Cook denied allegations, according to documents filed this week from his legal team. Earlier Thursday, the Wall Street Journal pointed out for the first time that the Ministry of Justice had published assignments focused on cook properties in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Atlanta.
“The questions about how Governor Cook described his properties from time to time, which we have started to approach in the current case and will continue to do so, are not fraud, but this Doj is not necessary to undertake a new politicized investigation, and they seem to have done it again,” said Cookat Abbe Lowell’s lawyer in a press release on Thursday.
Bill Pulte, the highest official of the mortgage of President Donald Trump and a housing scion, said last month that he had made two criminal references to the Ministry of Justice for an alleged fraud that he had affirmed Cook committed before and during his time as Fed governor.
Ed Martin, an official of the Ministry of Justice operated to supervise the probes on Cook and other high -level democrats confronted with similar allegations, said in late August that an investigation was open on Cook. Martin also said that the president of the FED, Jerome Powell, should withdraw Cook, according to a copy of his letter obtained by Bloomberg.
Powell does not have the power to remove other Fed officials, such as Cook.
The investigation of the Ministry of Justice is one of the two legal fronts that Cook is fighting. She continued Trump last week after trying to dismiss her because, citing the accusations of Pulte.
Nominated by the president of the time, Joe Biden, Cook is the first black woman in the Council of Governors of the Federal Reserve. His mandate began in 2023 and took place until 2038.
Cook’s legal battles take place against a broader struggle on the long -standing political independence of the federal reserve. Trump and several of his officials, including Pulte, attacked Powell in a one -month campaign to put pressure on the central bank to considerably reduce his reference interest rate, arguing that he would stimulate the economy. A drop in large -scale rate, rather than the drop in gradual quarter -point that the Fed often deploys, would probably warm up already obstinate inflation, economists and other experts support.
Powell’s mandate as president is expected to expire in May 2026. Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent examine the candidates to succeed him.
