Sunderland failed with a late move to sign the Nantes Matthis Abline striker on the day of the deadline.
The western French western reports of France via Emmanuel Merceron indicate that Sunderland and Newcastle United have shown interest in the 22 -year -old striker in the last hours of the transfer window. However, none of the club has submitted an official offer, and this decision has never really materialized.
Sunderland did a late and Newcastle surveys made investigations. Abline was also linked to Leeds United.
Sunderland wants Matthis Abbline
Abline has been on the Soundland radar for some time, with sports director Kristjaan Speakman and the head coach Régis Le Bris aimed at adding to their attack options before the transfer date.
The Black Cats had previously had an offer in the region of 17.25 million pounds Sterling rejected for the player, Nantes to be held at a cost closer to 43.3 million pounds Sterling. The other interested parties were Marseille, Lille and Newcastle.
The striker had a revolutionary campaign last season, scoring nine goals in Ligue 1 and playing an important role in the France U21 team which reached the semi-finals of the European Championship.
There is no doubt that he is a young talented player with a brilliant future, and he could have been a quality long -term investment for Sunderland. They obtained a promotion in the Premier League and they want to stay in the elite. They need quality to match the elite clubs.
Newcastle wanted to sign Abline
Meanwhile, Newcastle also needed to attack depth. They managed to sign two quality strikers before the window closed, but the young Frenchman would also have been a superb investment. It will be interesting to see if one of the two Premier League clubs decides to come back for the player in the near future. The requested price seems quite expensive and Nantes may have to be more reasonable with their requests.
