US Open: Coco Gauff has a flood of tears but again wins in New York despite more service problems | Tennis news

Coco Gauff was brought a flood of tears after a litany of service errors to defeat the Croatian Donna Vekic 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 to work in the third round of the US Open.
Gauff has teamed up with the Gavin Macmillan biomechanics specialist and although she always adapts to a remittable service, Gauff had to fight hard to get ahead of the former semi-finalist of Wimbledon Vekic during a dramatic meeting in the evening.
“Honestly, today was a difficult match for me. But I am just satisfied with the way I was able to manage. It was difficult for a few weeks,” said Gauff during her interview on the field, before stopping while she was starting to cry.
“You bring me so much joy that I do this for me but also for you. No matter how it penetrates inside, you can do it.”
The two players fought for the rhythm in the first set under the dazzling of prime hours of the Arthur Ashe stadium, Gauff reduced his uncondrained errors on the service just enough to win it via an equality break.
The 2023 champion had cried in her towel during a break at the game after being broken in the ninth game and then practiced his delivery when Vekic received physio treatment for a right arm problem.
After a 16 double defects combined in the opening set, the two players finally made up, but it was Gauff who moved away to build a 3-1 advance.
The American, who had also worked in her first round match against Ajla Tomljanovic, took advantage of a series of errors from Vekic to Break to Love once again before obtaining victory, avenging her defeat in the third round against the Croatian at the Paris Olympic Games last year.
Gauff also granted credit to gymnastics Great Simone Biles, who was watching from the stands.
Biles overcome a mental block known as “twists” at the Tokyo Olympic Games, recovering to win three gold medals in Paris last summer.
“I saw her, she helped me withdraw it,” said Gauff. “I thought that if it could go on a six -inch bundle with all the pressures of the word, I can hit the ball, I don’t even know how much this court is a greatness. It brought me a little calm knowing all the things it has gone by mentally.”
The next American is facing the 28th Polish seed Cheeky Magdalenawhere she hopes to avoid the same drama.
“I think I show people what it is to be a human, and I have bad days, but I think it’s more about how you get up after these bad times and how you introduce yourself after that,” she said.
“I think that today I showed that I could get up after feeling the worst that I have ever felt on the ground.”
Venus claims the first victory of the Grand Colem for four years
Venus Williams back up the years with an impressive performance and she agreed to team up with Leylah Fernandez Canadian when the female doubles opened.
Faced with the sixth seeded Lyudmyla Kichenok-who won the title last year with Jelena Ostapenko-and Ellen Perez, Williams and Fernandez, 45, retaliated in a first set deficit to claim a 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 victory.
This is Williams’ first victory during a major since he beat Mihaela Buzarnescu in single in Wimbledon four years ago, while his last double slam victory came with his sister Serena to the French Open in 2018.
“Thank you to my partner, best partner with whom I have ever played outside Serena,” said a radiant Williams.
The American won 14 Grand Slam titles alongside Serena, with the last to come in Wimbledon nine years ago.
Asked about Fernandez’s approach, Williams said: “I couldn’t believe it, it was 10 pm. I said to myself:” I am not very good in double “.
“I really don’t know what I do, I’m just trying very hard. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be back here.”
Fernandez is best known for having lost against Emma Raducanu during the final of the singles here four years ago and she made a little and wide combination with Williams which turned out to be very effective.
“I don’t think we have come with a plan,” said the Canadian, who is 23 years younger than Williams.
“We tried to understand things at first. It was a good atmosphere, very fun. I’m just honored to share a court with Venus.
“It was trying, exciting. At night before, I was shaking. Once we started, it all started to flow so it was good.”
