A beloved episode of Stargate SG-1 had to be rewritten at the last minute

There is something in an alternative chronology plot that fans of “Stargate SG-1” absolutely love. The episode of season 3 “Point of View” is a favorite episode of fans which is currently at number 32 on the list of IMDB episodes (as opposed to “emancipation”, whose users of IMDB voted the worst episode of “SG1”) and remembers with emotion for its unique scenario that saw alternative versions of Kawalsky Amanda, Samantha Carter and Anovone Help from the SG-1 crew.
“Point of View” was the second time that “SG-1” has explored the parallel universes (the first being season 1 “there but the grace of God”, in which the quantum mirror is introduced). The writers would return to the concept of alternative chronologies in the fourth and fifth season of the show, with “2010” and “2001” respectively-which were also in favor of fans, although we have never obtained a third Aschen episode of “SG-1”, which would have continued the scenario of these beloved facilities. But there is something particularly impressive in “Point of View”, which was the sixth episode of season 3 “SG-1” and the 50th episode in the general classification, in that the writers in fact created the entire scenario in the space of about 48 hours.
The point of view is one of the best episodes of Stargate SG-1
In “point of view”, alternative versions of Samantha Carter and Major Charles Kawalsky use the quantum mirror to go to the main “SG-1” chronology after their version of the earth has been reduced by Goa’uld. In this alternative chronology, in which the Goa’uld essentially conquered the earth, Colonel Jack O’Neill and Dr Samantha Carter were married before O’Neill was killed during an attack on the SGA (the alternative version of the Stargate Command). This is important because there was always a big question mark on the relationship of the pair since the very beginning of the series. The non-produced dialogue of “SG-1” alluded to the romantic status of Sam and Jack, and throughout the series, there were several suggestions that the pair was more than simple colleagues. But in this episode, the writers were able to explore the idea that they really get married, and there is a touching scene where Sam alternative cries on Jack’s shoulder of the main chronology.
Aside from the O’Neill and Carter and the Goa’uld marriage to conquer the earth, the alternative reality is particularly different from the main continuity of many other ways. Neither Teal’c nor Dr. Daniel Jackson became part of the SG-1 crew, Teal’c remaining an enemy of the human race which led attacks against the command of Stargate of this universe.
In the main chronology, the alternative version of Carter begins to suffer from what is called a failure in entropic cascade, which will ultimately kill it unless it returns to its own universe. The only problem is that Goa’uld is waiting for her there, where she is almost sure to be killed. Of course, the SG-1 crew cannot let it suspend, and they therefore return to the alternative chronology with it, ultimately recruiting the help of the Asgard race, which intervenes and save the crew of SG-1 and their parallel friends from the Jaffa and Goa’uld. O’Neill and Alternate Sam even have time to kiss before the team returns to the main universe. It is an intense and sometimes quite moving story that seems to have been in progress. In fact, the episode was written at the last minute.
The point of view was hastily written for a gap in the calendar
In an interview with Dial The Gate (via Gateworld), the writer and editor -in -chief of Story, Tor Valenza, revealed that the “point of view” met following certain planning problems. “We had a big gaping hole because a script died of a freelancer, or something else,” he said. “Maybe MGM did not like it. Anyway, it was something that should be completely rewritten. And we just decided:” OK, we have to find something from scratch and write something in 48 hours. “”
This is exactly what the team has done, with Valenza recalling how many available writer has been called to “hammer the intrigue”. According to the writer, who received a history credit for the episode, “all the staff were there to try to resolve it […] I just remember that it was a really high pressure situation for us to find this script story because no one starts without the script, and we were zero, and he had to start production in two weeks, or something like that. “”
Regarding the popularity of the episode, Valenza hypothesized that it had at least something to do with the exploration of the relationship of Sam Carter and Jack O’Neill. “”[Sam and Jack] were married in the alternative universe, so it is certainly something that everyone wanted and everything else. And so you had this drama. It was a perfect way to create that soap opera tension. “Sam and jack never Did Get Together on” sg-1, “but that made it all the more compelling a relationshipship, with the classic will-they-won’t -They Dynamic Being One of the Best Parts of the Series. indulge the idea without commuting to it and ruining the tension for future episodes, which is a genius move, especially considering the white thing was wasten in two days.
