Film Scandal of qualification of the World Cup of Chile “Simulacro” in the works

The Villano Productcionnes and the Chile Storyboard media team up with Viven Film (Switzerland) and the Chilean-Producer actor Benjamín Vicuña (“Locked Up”, “Fuga”) to sign a co-production agreement for the feature film “Simulacro” during the Cannes market this year. Directed by Juan Ignacio Sabatini, the film is a political sports thriller based on a real event that shocked the world of football.
Located in Brazil, “Simulacro” dramatizes the 1989 scandal during a World Cup qualification between Chile and Brazil, when Chilean goalkeeper Roberto Rojas organized an injury during the match at the Maracanã stadium. The incident triggered global indignation and exposed deep problems in sport.
“The Condor Rojas affair was an important step in my life and in the life of an entire generation of a country and, why not say it, a scar on world football,” said Vicuña Variety. “Being able to make a film and revealing what really happened, how this moment was built, what is true, which is the myth, which is real, what were the consequences, I find it extremely convincing because it is a story that, everywhere in the world, a simulation like this is simply incredible.”
The film focuses on Chomsky, an obsessive radio journalist who is investigating the incident, discovering a network of corruption, political manipulation and media spectacle. Combining Thriller elements with black humor, the story moves between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
“We are considering a high -tension film, full of action and touches of humor, sometimes at the limit of a police thriller, featuring adorable and relatable characters, not only attractive football fans but also for those who are fascinated by the madness that surrounds it,” explains Sabatini.
“” Simulacro “is such an incredible story that it seems invented, but it happened. It is a story that exposes how the national stories are built, engaging with our collective memory and the world spectacle”, explain Gabriela Sandoval and Carlos Nuñez de Storyboard. “At the film market, we are looking for partners, especially Brazilians, who want to be part of this story that resonates with the public around the world.”
The other co -producers Javier Krause and Sebastián Cepeda add, “” Simulacro “represents a unique opportunity for VIVEN films: the starting point for our project development plan in co -production with Latin America. More time. We are fortunate to be in an ideal moment, which is bringing strategic partners and realizing ourselves with a moment for a moment, an environment, an environment by strategic partners and we are confronted with a director for an ideal moment, the entourage of strategic partners and a director for a realization this fable in life.
Producers are actively looking for Brazilian and additional partners from Latin America, because a large part of the film takes place in Brazil.
