Robert Pattinson in “The Penguin”? Showrunner spoke about it

Lauren Lefranc knows that she broke your heart with this shocking death in the HBO final The penguin – But that was not the goal. What she doesn’t know (any more than you) is to know if her series nominated for Emmy (24 names!) Will have a second season.
In any case, Lefranc cannot return to Gotham City before Robert Pattinson has given the hood for Matt Reeves’ The Batman II part. In case you have not heard it, there is an entire DC universe plan in place now.
The showrunner and executive producer speaks to THR How long the voters and fans will have to wait a potential two season and make a Batman show without Batman.
I know The penguin was created in September, but I have the impression that it’s been years.
I know, it’s strange. It’s funny, because I have the impression that it also took a long time to shoot. With the closure of the strike, we started in winter, then when we returned, we left in winter. So we had two winters The penguinSo time slows this way. But honestly, I know how rare it is to be recognized in this way, so it’s really very pleasant to see so many people in our distribution and the team be recognized in history. It’s really the most fulfilling thing. So, even if it has come for almost a year since our first, it was really a pleasure.
What is the status of a two season?
I don’t know. There is no current status update. I think Matt has just returned to his script (for The Batman II part), therefore I am delighted to read it soon and to see what comes from that – if there is something that deserves a second season [of The Penguin] or not. I think we have already said it, but I really think: we must be confident that we can complement ourselves, and this is something that is really important for Colin Farrell and me, especially; Otherwise, we don’t want to redo something if it is not going to be excellent. We were always supposed to be a limited series. So rotating a second season is simply different – it’s not something we really talked about.
And you couldn’t come back before The Batman II part Anyway, which was delayed at 2027.
RIGHT. The intention of our first season has always been, we are launching Oz in the second film, so we could not broadcast a second season before the release of Matt film.
You are not involved in the films-does that seem in any way “less than” than a major reason for the existence of your program to be serving films?
It’s interesting that you said that. I know that I am technically the bridge, but I do not do it – that’s not how I see it or how I feel or think about it in terms of our show, really at all. For me, it was as if I were in the same world of Gotham City that Matt established in the film. I show you different sides, I show you different characters and I look at Gotham as a city also through a different lens. Our show is very cinematographic, and it is a different form of narration. Television is a long -form narration, which gives us more time. We made eight major episodes, and we were able to spend much more time with our characters and really dig out who they are and what they are afraid of. We can disentangle them slowly, and we allow different revelations and moments where you can deepen your understanding of these characters, and it is really difficult to do in a film. But it’s extraordinary what Matt made in the first film, and I’m sure the second film will be too. These are just different mediums, that’s how I look at it. But I don’t feel “less than” to be a television program.
Robert Pattinson was always close to the appearance on The penguin season one?
Matt and I talked about it a lot. It just didn’t feel necessary. It was as if we would just tear him away to say that we had the Batman in our show, when in reality, I have the impression that my goal was at least to create fairly rich and convincing characters that you were not desperate to see it, what I know is a big order because so many people like Batman, and Rob Pattinson is as good as Batman. But, yes, we did something a little different. We are through Oz’s goal. We are on the street. There is a gang war. We always said: “Batman is high by looking at Gotham, and Oz is in the mud, wanting to climb up up there and reach a level of power.” So, yes, we talked about it, but honestly, we just didn’t want to interfere with the story we had.
Would it appear in season two if we get one?
I mean, there is not even a two season at the moment. So I can’t say anything about this.
Rhenzy Feliz (left) like Victor and Colin Farrell that Oz in HBO The penguin.
With the kind permission from HBO
At the end of The penguinSofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) receives a letter from Selina Kyle, whom we know is Catwoman (played by Zoë Kravitz in the film). If there is a second season, does the letter point out that Catwoman will be there?
From my point of view, it is Sofia’s emotional arch as a character, that the whole season concerns the fact that her family betrayed him. She tries to reach out. She tries to understand herself in this family, and she finally realizes that she is very alone. And, of course, she spectacularly murdered most of them, but she has this tension and this pain is mixed in her. And she will see Gia, her little cousin, in this children’s house that recalls Arkham Asylum very well in many ways. And she leaves it there because that’s what Sofia would do. So, you understand that she as a character, she has a lot of complex feelings concerning the family and all kinds of maternal or non -maternal feelings that she has. So, at the end – when Oz Cit -Unquote wins and condemns it to a deeper form of hell than death by bringing it back to Arkham – it is all alone now, and it is lost, and it is heartbreaking, and it was really important for me to give it a semblance of hope.
Selina Kyle’s letter is to say – what the public who saw Batman Would already know – they are half -sisters. It was established in Matt’s film that Selina Kyle is the illegitimate girl of Carmine Falcone, right? And we know that Sofia is also the daughter of Carmine, and so it’s more “maybe you have family here, maybe there is still a little hope for you” for this show. This is what the intention of this letter is.
I remember through Fox Gotham Executing the recurring question was: “How could you have a Batman without Batman show?” But I think The penguin This is exactly how you could have a Batman show of quote without Batman.
Thank you for saying that. We knew that we were not going to be a show where we throw in the sink of the kitchen. It is not necessary. Obviously, we are installed in Gotham City, but we really consider ourselves a criminal drama in the soul, and it is a character drama. And so, when you break things from the place of character and from whom they are psychologically and what they are targeting, you do not think so much of what “who can we throw here?” It is more: “Who are these people? What do they want? How do they interact with each other? How can we continue to surprise the public? ” We focus more on dramatic narration and we deepen the characters.
Was there a version of The penguin In which you did not kill Vic (Rhenzy Feliz)?
No. Before having a writers room, I broke out the background of each character and all their emotional bow. So, part of my field in HBO has always been: “Victor dies at the end by the hand of Oz. It is slow and intimate and painful. ” It was always the intention.
