Martin Short was the only one of the three stars of “only murders in the building” to receive an actor’s appointment at the Emmy this year – and he always laughs at the way the Co -Star Steve Martin did the news. “Steve phoned me in the middle of the afternoon,” said shorts VarietyReward circuit podcast. As an Oliver Putnam, Short is in many ways the emotional nucleus of “only murders”. During four seasons – and soon five – the public saw his character fight to maintain a link with his son, lament on what his career could have been, then get closer to a second chance, then fall in love with Loretta (Meryl Streep).
Season 4 ended with the marriage of Oliver and Loretta – but it is “only murders in the building”, there is, of course, a murder in the building at the very end: the porter of the Arconia Lester (Teddy Coluca). This brings us to season 5, which returns on September 9. So how many murders can take place in the building? In other words, how long could the show continue?
“I think the reality is that you know when you feel like you spent your time,” says Short. “I think everyone is amazed that it has disappeared so long. It’s a long period of streaming to go five years.” The Dick Van Dyke show “ended after five years, because one of the reasons was that they were afraid of losing the quality of this. But then” Friends “became how long and they were always brilliant.”

Short still likes to appear from time to time as Jiminy Glick – Last year, he welcomed “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. But he went from some of his other signature characters – including Ed Grimley.
“I think someone like Ed Grimley was interesting because he was an adult who still had the opening of a child, but at some point, it seems that he was an adult man suffering from a disease,” said Short. “So, you don’t look at him in the present in this way. But Glick can constantly be in the current, like a male barbara Walters, or someone who lasted decades.”
