Who goes captain of India if Suryakumar Yadav is not fit for the Asian Cup?

In a realistic way, India has only 3 players who can lead the Indian team for the absence of Suryakumar Kumar.

Suryakumar Yadav recently underwent a sports hernia operation. The Indian captain T20i has already started his rehabilitation at the center of excellence. We expect him to come back to his best physique before the Asian 2025 Cup. But what happens if it is not?

We know that doing the injuries is not easy. This particular problem has also caused Suryakumar problems in the past. It is great that he is back in the nets. But things can be complicated during its rehabilitation. If, God does not please, Surya is not fit for the Asian Cup, who will be the captain of Team India?

Can Shubman Gill even play in the Asian Cup?

The answer to this question is not simple. In the aftermath of Rohit Sharma’s T20i retirement, Suryakumar was appointed Skipper and Shubman Gill his assistant. In normal circumstances, Gill would lead the team. But he has not played T20i since July 2024.

This decision was made to prioritize Gill’s availability for test cricket. In May, he was appointed test captain of India. At the moment, we do not even know if the selectors would choose it since Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma have held the place in the last 12 months.

But suppose that the selectors want to bring it back. Then the question arises: how will Gill are preparing for the India vs Antilles tests? The 2 -game series begins on October 2, while the Asian Cup ends on September 28. Even if India is not the final, they will always play until September 25 or 26.

It seems uncertain that Gill will appear in the Asian Cup, and therefore think of him at the head of India is really out of the question.

Is the Axar Patel spot confirmed?

In January, Axar Patel was appointed T20i vice-captain in India before the England series. Since then, the versatile has led an Indian Premier League (IPL) team for the first time as a permanent captain. His performance was good, because the Capitals of Delhi failed to make the playoffs in one place.

But there could also be questions about his place. We have seen how Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy did in T20is. Since the Asian Cup will take place in the water, Spin will play a huge factor. Axar was incredible with the bat, but its performance with the ball decreased.

At the same time, Washington Sundar seems to rise through formats. We know that Gautam Gambhir highlights it, and there is a circumstance that anxar is abandoned for Washington. Again, the question arises, can you make someone the vice-captain T20i of someone who cannot do the XI of play?

Hardin Pandya: Otherwise, why now?

The last option is Hhelik Pandya. The versatile is a guaranteed choice given that he is a white ball player. There is no replacement for him. But there seems to be a problem. For any reason, Hhelik, who was Indian vice-captain until the 2024 T20 World Cup, was not appointed skipper after Rohit’s retreat.

He won the IPL with the Gujarat titans and currently directs the Indians of Mumbai, where Suryakumar plays under him. However, when the time comes, he was not appointed captain. For any reason, Axar also prevails as vice-captain. We don’t know why he didn’t have the management. But if he hadn’t given him responsibility, why would he receive it now?

The BCCI seems to have created this problem alone. They did not appoint any permanent vice-captain, someone who will play for Team India, regardless of the place or conditions. If, for any reason, Suryakumar Yadav is not in good shape, we do not know who will be the captain of India at the Asian Cup 2025.
