49ers players seriously underestimate Bears

The San Francisco 49ers are starting to take the Chicago Bears lightly.

The two will face off on Sunday Night Football in search of the No. 1 seed in the NFC, with both expected to win and the Seattle Seahawks losing one of their final two games. Chicago is the No. 2 seed, while San Francisco is the No. 5 seed.

49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings was asked about the amount of tape he watched of the Bears secondary during a recent interview. The player shared that he only watched about two games of Chicago film before the game.

It seems the 49ers aren’t paying much attention to the Bears. Jennings further explained that this was because the 49ers and Bears usually played on the same day, arguing that it was difficult to watch film on them because of this.

“I mean, I haven’t watched them too much, maybe a game or two,” Jennings said. “We haven’t watched them at all this year. We always play games on the same day, so it’s a little difficult to watch this team.

Jennings has been with the 49ers since 2021 and recently set a new career high in receiving yards last season (975). He is third on the team in receiving yards (566) in 2025, behind George Kittle (599) and Christian McCaffrey (849).

That’s an interesting admission from Jennings with so little time left before the game. If other 49ers players take a similar approach to the Bears, Chicago could benefit.

The Bears defense could particularly benefit, given San Francisco’s turnover trend this season. The Bears lead the league with 31 forced turnovers, and the 49ers have the 10th most turnovers per offense with 20.

The last time San Francisco and Chicago played was last season. It was interim head coach Thomas Brown’s first game. His tenure as interim head coach didn’t get off to the best start, as the Bears lost 38-13.

San Francisco scored 24 unanswered points before Chicago got on the board in the third quarter.

San Francisco’s offense is just as potent this time around, with the 49ers ranking in the top 10 in passing yards (259.2), points (26.1) and total yards (353.7) per game.

There are some questions regarding the 49ers defense, however. They just gave up 27 points and 312 offensive yards to Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts.

We’ll see if the Bears can keep up on Sunday. Kickoff will be at 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock.
