The 49ers wide receiver room in San Francisco was decimated by injuries, leaving the team awaiting the return of one of their best game leaders – Brandon Aiyuk. Although the Wideout veteran should not be ready for week 1, the 49ers are considering a potential return from week 6, depending on how he continues to progress in his recovery.

Managing Director John Lynch joined the radio station in the Baie KNBR region on Thursday morning and shared an update on the status of Aiyuk.

“Brandon did a very good job,” said Lynch. “I spoke, throughout the process, he had a lot of things that took place during this injury. … I think many people remember this time, and it was vicious. You could see, like” Oh, no, we could get in trouble. “And of course we were.”

The Ayuk injury took place in October 2024 in a regular season match against the Kansas City chiefs. The 49ers receiver underwent ACL and MCL tears as well as additional damage, ending its season prematurely. The team hopes to be able to return in 2025 and provide a significant boost to a large group of recipient who has undergone an off -season transition after Deebo Samuel’s off -season.

“He recovered well,” added Lynch. “I think we feel comfortable saying that he will not be there in week 1, and then it will probably be some time after that.”

Aiyuk is expected to start the season on the list physically unable to play (PUP), excluding it for the first four games. With the match of the week 5 of San Francisco against the Rams of Los Angeles to come over a short week, week 6 against the Buccaneers of Tampa Bay seems to be the first date of realistic return.

However, the 49ers could wait until week 7 against the Falcons of Atlanta, because this match will be at Levi’s Stadium.

“I’m not going to put exact deadlines,” said Lynch, “but I hope that, during this season, he plays the type of football we know, when he is there, that he is supposed to do and expect him to play. And it will be a big boost to our team.”
