Marquette, Michigan (WLUC) – Room from The Inn (RATI) to Marquette asks for your help.

The director general of Rati, Chelsie Wilkinson, said that the center can house 46 people. She said the building has been at maximum capacity for almost a year.

“We have 30 permanent beds,” said Wilkinson. “Do the quick calculation, it means that we have 16 people who sleep on beds in our dining room.”

The average monthly connection numbers in rati have more than doubled since January 2023. The warming center is on the right track to serve more families this year than last year.

“There are a thousand skin ways a cat here, but really, these figures are amazing,” said Wilkinson.

Wilkinson said that 50% of the $ 500,000 budget in rati is state and federal funding. She said she was concerned about the government’s government if a budget is not signed by October 1.

“Don’t be afraid to contact your elected officials,” said Wilkinson. “We need it to know the importance of these programs.”

But some people have problems with rati and the people who stay there.

A woman, who said that she lived alone and close to the warming center, says that a homeless has cursed her one night.

“Now, this aggressive and potentially unstable person knows where I live and it was really frightening for me,” said Laura, a Marquette resident.

A man said he had encountered problems with the homeless on the cycle paths.

“Last summer, I walk on dogs with my wife, a group of children presenting themselves and say:” Hey, can you help us find a police officer? “,” Said Jared, Marchandle resident. “I said:” Yeah, what’s going on, what is the problem? “” This homeless has just threatened to stab us all. “”

Meanwhile, the head administrator of the Marquette Salvation Army, Bill Brutto, said that he appreciated Jared speaking of cycle paths, but he thinks that some people staying in Rati does not represent the whole.

“I do not believe that this inn room makes our community dangerous, just as I do not believe that the Salvation Army makes our community dangerous,” said Brutto. “But imagine if we had no services like space at the hostel or the Salvation Army. What would happen? “
