“We could not accept a leader who did not understand our world.” This is the entirely true and not filtered story of the largest civil rights movement that most people have never heard of. Apple TV unveiled the first trailer for the documentary entitled President of the deaf now!which was presented at first at the Film Film of Sundance 2025 with renowned tons. In 1988, deaf students from the historic University of Gallaudet (the oldest deaf school in the world at 161 – located in Washington DC) protested for 8 days until the school appointed its first president of Sourde, Dr I. King JordanStanding a central moment for the rights and representation of disabled people. It is their history. It’s extraordinary! I was blown away by this film! President of the deaf now! Has exclusive interviews with the five key characters in the movement, including Gallaudet Four – Jerry Covell, Bridgetta Bourne -Firl, Tim Rarus, Greg Hlibok – alongside I. King Jordan, as well as archival and scripted elements. The film also includes an experimental narrative approach called Deaf point of viewUsing impressionist visual photography and complex sound design to dive the public in the deaf experience. President of the deaf now! tells the 8 days of historical events held at Gallaudet University In 1988, after the school board of directors appointed a president hearing on several highly qualified deaf candidates. After a week of gatherings, boycott and demonstrations, students of Gallaudet University triumph while the president of the hearing resigned and the beloved dean Dr. I. King Jordan becomes the first deaf president of the University. The demonstrations marked a pivotal moment in the history of civil rights, with an impact which extended far beyond the Gallaudet campus, and paved the way for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). President of the deaf now! is co -edited by filmmakers NYLE DIMARCO (a deaf actor who makes his director’s debut) and Davis Guggenheim (Director of Doc acclaimed of An embarrassing truth, Gracie, it could become noisy, waiting for Superman, from the sky, he named me Malala, always: a film by Michael J. Fox Previously and other documents). Produced by Nyle Dimarco, Davis Guggenheim, Michael Harte, Jonathan King, Amanda Rohlke. This was initially created at the Film Film of Sundance 2025 earlier this year (read our review). Apple will make its debut President of the deaf now! Doc Streaming on Apple TV + Starter May 16, 2025 future. A must -see.
