4 simple meals to try

The ideal dinner during the week is healthy, easy and quick, but this type of meal planning can be difficult, especially if you try to map dinner ideas when you have an ulcerative colitis (UC). When the SYC symptoms are flaying, you may need to avoid many otherwise nutritious foods, but that does not mean that you should sacrifice nutrients, convenience or flavor.
“What we eat does not cause intestinal inflammation in ulcerative colitis, but some foods can worsen the symptoms of a rocket,” said Torey Armul, RDN, nutrition consultant at Lewis Center, Ohio. To learn your triggers, Armul suggests working with a recorded dietitian, which will analyze the way your diet affects your symptoms and potentially identify the foods that you cannot tolerate.
“People with ulcerative colitis have different food intolerances, so an elimination diet can help determine problematic food,” she said. “The most common culprits are lactose, rich and raw and fibrous foods,” she says, although these same foods can be more easily tolerated when you feel good.
If you want to create your own UC weekly meal plan, build it as a function of the basic structure that ARML recommends: lean proteins, simple with low carbohydrates, produce (cooked fruits or vegetables) and healthy fats. “This directive allows you to create your own dinner menu and enjoy a wide variety of food,” she says. “It also maximizes the density of nutrients but minimizes fiber -rich foods which can be more difficult to digest.” If you don’t know where to start, consider these four simple, nutritious and friendly ideas to get you spending the week.
1. Tacos of turkey
This UC dinner quickly meets: lean brown turkey with some of your favorite roasted vegetables served in a soft whole wheat tortilla or a crunchy corn tacos shell. Garnish with 1% natural Greek yogurt instead of the sure cream.
2. Asian bowl
Mix the grilled chicken, cooked white rice, baby corn, water chestnuts and steamed vegetables with a soy sauce with a low sodium content. It is another idea of UC dinner (or try it for lunch) which gathers in a few minutes and hides well in a comforting and nutritious bowl.
