An earthquake of 4.0 intermediate magnitude was reported in the morning near Kisarazu, Kisarazu Shi, Chiba, Japan.
According to the European-Mediterranean seismological center (EMSC), the earthquake struck Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 8:53 a.m., local time at an intermediate depth of 70 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter and depth of the earthquake could be revised in the coming hours or minutes while seismologists examine the data and refine their calculations, or other agencies publish their report.
Our surveillance service identified a second report from the National Institute for Research in Japan for the resilience of science and disasters in Japan (NIED) which listed the earthquake to magnitude 4.3. A third agency, the Citizen-Seismograph Network of Raspberrykes, reported the same earthquake to magnitude 4.0.
