Christian Wade returns to Rugby Union with Newcastle Red Bulls after leaving the Warriors Rugby League | Rugby Union News

Christian Wade has again changed rugby codes after leaving Wigan Warriors from the League to join the Newcastle Red Bulls union outfit from December.

The return of Wade to the 15 men’s code will give him the opportunity to become the record of Prem Try-Scor, with the 34-year-old currently second on the list of all time.

The total of 93 wing tests, amassed through previous stays with Wasps and Gloucester, is eight shy from Chris Ashton’s transport of 101.

Wade told Newcastle website: “I come to get this record.

“Of course, rugby is a team sport and the essential for me is to have a positive influence to help the global side of Newcastle to occur, but I will not pretend that I do not want to be the top scorer of all time in the history of the league.”

Wade joined the Super Ligue Wigan on a short-term contract until the end of 2025 at the end of the pre-prime campaign last season with Gloucester.

He made two first team appearances for the Warriors, marking two tests, when he also played a certain number of games for the reserve team.

Wade, who had a spell with Buffalo Bills in the NFL between 2019 and 2022, said: “It was an absolute honor to be involved in a big club like Wigan and they were fantastic with me. I only take good memories of my stay there.

“I have never been someone to avoid a challenge, I learned a lot from experience and it is a special organization. Their fans are incredible, more like a football crowd with their tribal, and I was proud to represent them.”

From his return from the Union, Wade added: “There is a massive buzz on the whole Red Bulls project in Newcastle, and I can’t wait to be part of it.

“There is now a massive potential in Newcastle after a few difficult years, and if I can help raise the team at the start of this new era, I think it would be something really special.”

The seven laps of Wade in the PREM remain a championship record, when he approached 11 times in 14 high flight games for Gloucester last season.
