3 Oregon senators targeted by the bomb threats that the police concluded was false
Thursday morning, three Oregon Democratic Senators received bomb threats, according to an Oregon’s state email to state legislators on Thursday afternoon.
The threats sent by email were false and the senators are OK, said state police officials. The explosive technicians found no bomb at the senators’ homes, said the email of the lieutenant of the Casi Hegney State police. Oregon state police work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement to determine who sent the threats.
The republican leader of the Senate Daniel Bonham of the slabs and the Democratic senator James Manning of Eugene both confirmed that the threats had been sent to Manning, the president of the Senate Rob Wagner of Lake Oswego and the head of the majority of the Kayse Jama Senate of Portland. Manning and Jama are two of some black Oregon legislators.
Bomb threats occurred one day after the cheeky assassination of the conservative political figure Charlie Kirk turned the nation and on the anniversary of the country’s most notorious act of terrorism.
Manning told Oregonian / Oregonlive that he had heard of the threats of the Eugene police service. He is currently traveling outside the state, he said.
“It’s really really sad that we have patients who will do things like that,” said Manning. “When we talk about what happened to Charlie Kirk, I think it was appalling. It was hurtful. I feel for his family, regardless of his political opinions. … murder is murder.”
In written statements, Jama and Wagner thanked the law enforcement agents for responding to threats quickly.
“Violence and threats of violence should never be part of political disagreements,” Jama wrote. “We can oppose everyone’s ideas without resorting to violence and intimidation.”
“Acts and threats of political violence have no place in our democracy,” wrote Wagner. “Right now, we have to seek humanity common to each other and work to heal our nation.”
