The Detroit Red Wings continued their momentum Wednesday night. The Wings defeated the Stanley Cup-winning Florida Panthers 4-1 at Little Caesars Arena.
Mason Appleton scored twice for the Detroit Red Wings, with Patrick Kane (PPG) and Michael Rasmussen (EN) adding the others for the Wings. Meanwhile, Brad Marchand responded for the Cats with his third goal of the season.
Cam Talbot was sensational, stopping 21 or 22 shots en route to the victory.
So here’s a look at the three most impressive players on the Detroit Red Wings in their 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night.

#3Patrick Kane
Patrick Kane continues to support the Detroit Red Wings. Wednesday night, he touched the ice for nearly 16 minutes in 18 appearances. He scored a power play in the second period, giving the Wings a 2-0 lead at that point.
Here is an overview of the count:
Detroit took advantage of a 5-on-3 numerical advantage and did not miss. Kane knocked the puck out of the slot and beat Sergei Bobrovsky for what would become the game-winner.
#2 Mason Appleton
Mason Appleton made the most of his opportunity to play on the Red Wings’ top line in the absence of Lucas Raymond.
Wednesday night against the Panthers, Appleton scored twice to propel the Detroit Red Wings to victory.
Here’s a look at Appleton’s first goal of the night:
The play started with Detroit captain Dylan Larkin forcing a turnover in the Panthers zone. He then sent the puck in front of the net, where Appleton made short work of the situation and fired the shot past Bobrovsky.
The play showed excellent positioning from Appleton to take advantage of the interrupted play. Appleton scored into an empty net to seal the victory in the third period. In total, he skated for more than 15 minutes over 20 shifts and had three shots on goal.
#1 Cam Talbot
The story of the Red Wings season thus far has been Cam Talbot’s. Talbot had apparently taken precedence over the off-season acquisition of John Gibson. But Wednesday night was the third straight game in which Talbot knocked off one of the best teams in the Atlantic Division.
Talbot thwarted the Toronto Maple Leafs in back-to-back games, then eliminated the Florida Panthers. Talbot looked solid, especially with a defensively responsible team in front of him.
The veteran guard now has three wins under his belt and appears to have unseated Gibson as a starter in Detroit.
The Red Wings will next face another Atlantic Division opponent, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Friday night at Little Caesars Arena.
