The Utah hockey club will not confirm the name “mammoth” after an apparent leak

Utah hockey club officials would not confirm if “Mammoth” was their new name after he would have disclosed the team’s official YouTube channel on Tuesday evening.

Fans and the media noticed that the handle of the chain had gone from “@UtahhockeyClub” to “@Utahmammoth”, both on its destination page and at the URL. The chain was quickly disabled and stayed on Wednesday morning, but not before screenshot of the name change became viral.

Utah Mammoth was one of the three finalists presented in a vote of fans at the Delta Center to help determine the permanent name of the team, which played its inaugural season in 2024-25 after Seg bought and moved the old Arizona Coyotes franchise. The fans voted with iPads located in the stations around the arena that presented the names, the logos and the potential brand for each option.

Originally, the three names voted were Utah Mammoth, Utah Hockey Club and Utah Wasatch, which was quickly exchanged for Utah Outlaws after the team saw the anticipated voting feedback.

Mammoth made the Final Four during the initial vote of the fans last year.

UTAH HC leaders would not confirm or deny that Mammoth will be the new nickname of the team.

Mike Maughan, a manager of the owner of UTAH HC, Smith Entertainment Group, said on Wednesday that “progress continues to explore the three name options that have been chosen as finalists by our fans. We are fully on the right track to announce a permanent name and identity before the NHL 25-26 season and we are looking forward to sharing this with our fans when we do it.”

When he put pressure on an explanation on the alleged leak of Youtube, Maughan said only: “We are entirely on the right track to announce a permanent name and identity before the 25-26 season in the NHL.”

An NHL source told ESPN that the revelation of the new name and the team logo could be presented before the NHL recovery at the end of June. This year’s draft is a “decentralized” event, which means that the teams will make selections of their own sites rather than in a single central place. This opens the door to UTAH to have an event in Salt Lake City with team officials around the draft.

In other news from UTAH HC, the team announced on Wednesday that the Delta Center, which houses UTAH HC and Utah Jazz, will be renovated to optimize hockey steps while maintaining the proximity of basketball fans with the court using a retractable cutting-edge seat. It is a multi -year project that will also create a new main entrance and an outdoor place.

The first system of seats of its kind accepts a variance of almost 12 feet of elevation between the lines of the rink and the lines of justice to offer optimal lines of view for the NBA and the NHL. Each seat in the lower bowl will have a complete view of the ice at the start of next season – the team estimates that 400 seats can currently see only one goal during the matches.

The new hockey configuration adds a capacity behind the objectives and above and around the event tunnels on the north and southern side of the lower bowl and improves access to the seats behind the boards.

When all the renovations are finished, the capacity of hockey seats will drop from 11,131 to around 17,000 – each seat in the upper and lower bowls having a complete view of the two objectives – and the basketball capacity will increase from 18,206 to nearly 19,000 seats.

“Delta Center was built for basketball. When you come and put the size of a ice cap in this place with these lines of view, geometry simply does not work. This is where you find the configuration of the RISSE system. You find the elevation of the word of 2 feet,” said Jim Olson, president of jazz and the executive representing Seg on all installation projects.

“We absolutely protect the basketball experience, but also create an excellent hockey experience where all seats can see all the ice,” he said.
