Holiday Edition of SNL Features the Grinch, Scrooge and More

‘Saturday Night Live’ revealed its own version of Variety“Actors on actors” on the Dec. 13 episode of the late-night sketch show.
The “SNL” version was dubbed “Characters on Characters” and invited some iconic holiday favorites to interact — including a chat between Rudolph (host Josh O’Connor) and A Partridge in a Pear Tree (Bowen Yang); The Grinch (Mikey Day) and Scrooge (James Austin Johnson); Little Drummer Boy (Kenan Thompson) and Tiny Tim (Marcello Hernández); and Mrs. Claus (Chloe Fineman) and “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”‘s grandmother (Ashley Padilla).
Spoofing the in-depth conversations about craft that often take place during “Actors on Actors,” the discussions became in-depth, including Rudolph’s lack of formal training before pulling Santa’s sleigh; the Partridge becoming a “chosen family” with the other days of Christmas; the Grinch shooting on location in Whoville; Scrooge saying he hasn’t improved on his iconic words written by Charles Dickens; Little Drummer Boy saying his iconic phrase “Pa rum pum pum pum”; Mrs. Claus worries that the grandmother is really dead; and included many other seasonal pop culture jokes.
O’Connor hosted this week’s episode of “SNL,” with musical guest Lily Allen.
This season’s edition of Actors on Actors includes lively discussions between couples like Ariana Grande (“Wicked: For Good”) and Adam Sandler (“Jay Kelly”); Julia Roberts (“After the Hunt”) and Sean Penn (“One Battle After Another”); Dwayne Johnson (“The Smashing Machine”) and Brendan Fraser (“Rental Family”); Oscar Isaac (“Frankenstein”) and Teyana Taylor (“One Battle After Another”); and Jennifer Lawrence (“Die My Love”) and Leonardo DiCaprio (“One Battle After Another”).
The current 23rd edition of “Actors on Actors” marks the start of a new partnership between Variety and CNN. Since December 5, the episodes have been broadcast exclusively on CNN’s new streaming platform before being broadcast on VarietyThe YouTube channel of.
