3 Best Movies to Stream on Netflix This Week (December 29-January 2)

Netflix remains a top destination for people looking for movies and shows, and with everyone set to ring in 2026, there’s a feeling of wanting to find something good to watch this week. The good news is that Netflix has just about everything a movie buff could want, from heartwarming dramas to action flicks to big horror flicks.
The only big problem with a streaming service like Netflix is that things come and go consistently and it’s hard to keep track of what’s available to watch. To make things easier as we approach 2026, here’s a look at three big films to stream on the world’s largest streaming service to celebrate the new year.
Support Me (1986)
Movie fans recently lost one of the world’s greatest directors with the passing of Rob Reiner. To celebrate his extraordinary life and career, Netflix is streaming one of his best films. Stay close to me is a coming-of-age story that Reiner published in 1986. which holds up as well today as when it was released.
The movie is based on a Stephen King story, but it’s not a horror. Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix and Jerry O’Connell star as four preteen friends who go to see a “dead body” they hear about in the woods. However, the story goes that these children come of age and realize that life is not what they dreamed of.
There may not be a better coming-of-age drama on Netflix. Between the masterful direction of Rob Reiner and the surprisingly brilliant acting of these young stars, Stay close to me should be on everyone’s watch lists, especially those who have yet to discover this treasure.
Wallace & Gromit: Revenge of the Greatest Bird (2025)
If anyone missed it, a new Wallace and Gromit the film was released in 2025and it was exclusively for Netflix. The film will celebrate its first anniversary on the streamer this coming weekend, and there’s no better time to see what you’ve been missing than by streaming it this week.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is a sequel to the game from Aardman Studio. The wrong pants from 1993, but viewers don’t need to know anything about that movie other than there’s an evil penguin named Feathers McGraw that Wallace and Gromit helped put away, who’s back for revenge.
The film has great British humor, lots of wonderfully destructive garden gnomes, and all the characters fans of the franchise have grown to love. Best of all, the film maintains the original, loving relationship between the scientist and his dog and stands out from Aardman’s past Wallace & Gromit films.
Anaconda (1997)
With the new Anaconda movie in theaters, the original film is still available to stream on Netflix. The new Anaconda stars Paul Rudd and Jack Black, and it’s presented as a pure comedy, which turned off many fans of the original film. However, this original is ready to stream right now.
The problem with the 1997 version of Anaconda is that it is a black comedy with gruesome and bloody scenes, although often shown in ridiculous ways, especially since the Giant Anaconda never really looks like a real snake. The cast is also impressive, with Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson, and many more.
This is primarily a creature feature, and viewers shouldn’t expect it to take horror seriously; they should just strap in for a wild ride. Although it received negative reviews upon release, it is now a cult classic, and It’s worth watching this week on Netflix.
