McCartney’s stolen guitar saga told in Doc de “Super / Man” Super / Man producers: The Christopher Reeve Story,

The epic story behind the stolen bass guitar of Paul McCartney, which was sent to him in 2024 after 51 years, will be told in a new documentary feature produced by Arthur Cary (“Survivor 9/11”, “The Last Survivors”).

Entitled “The Beatle and the Bass”, the documentary is produced by Passion Pictures, which won the BAFTA this year with the Sundance hit “Super / Man: The Christopher Reeve Story”, for BBC Arts. Fremantle manages global distribution.

The documentary is announced as part of the 50th anniversary of the BBC Arena alongside “Turner: The Secret Sketchbooks” (also produced by Passion Pictures) and “Lost Tapes” by LS Lowry.

The story detective traces the saga of the original Höfner guitar of McCartney whose disappearance 51 years ago has become one of the most durable mysteries of rock ‘N’ Roll.

McCartney, who will be presented in the film, said: “I think everything that is cut, you want to come back, especially if it is a sentimental value. He just went to the universe and that let us think, where did he go? There must be an answer… ”, he said.

The documentary also has interviews with other people who are personally linked to bass, including McCartney’s brother Mike; as well as the friend and artist Klaus Vormann, who had known the Beatles from the start; and employees such as Elvis Costello; With fans, experts and journalists behind the Bass Lost project which has embarked on a mission to find bass and rescue and restore it.

McCartney had bought his beloved Höfner Bass in 1961, while he was an unknown 18-year-old, in Hamburg for £ 30. It was by his side throughout the birth of the Beatles, but in the early 1970s, he disappeared, and we thought we were lost forever.

Emily Jeal, chief documentaries of feats of passion Pictures, said: “Since its inception, we knew that” the Beatle and the Bass “was exactly the kind of distinctive, emotional and edifying story that we like to tell.”

“Working with Arthur Cary and BBC Arena to bring the unforgettable history of the lost bass of Paul McCartney on the screen is a real privilege,” said Jeal.

McCartney is also the subject of the Amazon Prime video documentary by Morgan Neville “Man on the Run”, which was presented at Teluride and examines its post-Beatles reputation in career.
