2,000 volunteers come from everywhere in the United States to make the traveler championship a success – NBC Connecticut

Thousands of people flock to Cromwell to look at some of the best golfers in the world in competition in the Travelers championship.

But the big event would not be possible without the help of volunteers.

Golf, food and darling memories would not be possible without these little -known heroes, who are the heart and soul of the traveler championship.

Richard Laury, who is now retired, is the president of the shuttles with the media.

“These people are here because they want to be here, not because they have to be here,” said Laury.

Laury donates her time for the tournament for 28 years and counts.

“The idea here is that we collect funds for charitable organizations that otherwise have this money, and it’s simply great,” said Laury.

And he is not alone. Kim Martin is in the 11th year of volunteering at the Travelers championship.

“Travelers always say how volunteers are at the heart of this championship, and they are really,” said Martin.

Taylor Whiting, director of the volunteer and charitable organization program, told us that there were around 2,000 volunteers from all over the country to help the event each year.

“100% of our net products go back to charitable works,” said Whiting. “And then we have the fundraising program. So more than $ 2 million goes through fundraising itself. But everything that happens here, in the end, goes to the charitable organization. ”

Whiting said last year, they collected more than $ 3 million for the charity and were underway to exceed this figure this year.
