2 injured after tree falls on vehicle in Roxborough

Two people were hospitalized Friday after a large tree fell on their vehicle in Philadelphia as gusty winds swept through the area.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. along Walnut Lane in Roxborough, where crews continued to clean up debris Friday evening.
Police said the couple was taken to hospital, but their conditions were not immediately available.
Heavy rains cause flooding and traffic problems in the Philadelphia area.
Authorities reported other downed trees in Upper Chichester and Broomall in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
In Washington Township, New Jersey, police said winds caused a 100-foot tree to fall on a home in the 1000 block of Beech Avenue. We’re told no one was inside at the time.
In Stanton, Del., cleanup was underway after a tree snapped and fell on a truck. The driver told Action News he got out moments before impact.
“I just checked the windows to make sure they were up,” Kevin Finch said. “I walked in and heard the crash.”
Flooding in the area has led to ongoing problems following heavy rain on Friday morning.
The strong winds were part of a doubleheader of severe weather. Heavy rain earlier in the day caused flooding that slowed morning commutes.
Major highways, including the Blue Route, were blocked due to accidents and flooded lanes. Crews were seen cleaning storm drains along the eastbound Schuylkill Highway near the Belmont Avenue exit.
The wind advisory was upgraded to a strong wind warning until 10 p.m. Friday. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph, bringing down trees, branches and power lines.
