14 years ago, New Year’s worst guilty pleasure was released

Family traditions lead you to do the strangest things. In my case, going to the movies on December 31st before our late nights allowed us to rewatch one of the worst films every year since its release in 2011. Boasting an impressive 7% off Rotten Tomatoes, Gary MarshallIt is New Year’s Eve has left its mark on my family, and maybe you should let it mark yours too.
Imagine Love in factbut with everything happening on New Year’s Eve, changing the setting to New York and executing it in an extremely worse way. I may not be selling it, but trust me, it’s the best feel-good movie for the last day of the year. New Year’s Eve It may be a train wreck, but it’s a fun one to watch. For better or worse, it’s also a testament to its times, with a stellar cast to top it all off.
“New Year’s Eve” is a holiday that dominates “so bad it’s good” territory.
New Year’s Eve draws on the sentimentality and nostalgia that overwhelms the human race as a new year approaches. The recap of highs and lows mixes with the promise of a better future, bringing hopeful resolutions. So, characters like Michelle PfeifferIt’s Ingrid and Zac EfronPaul from meets to achieve his list of 12 resolutions before the end of the year. Robert DeNiroStan is a terminally ill patient who just wants to see the Times Square ball drop before leaving this world. Hilary Swank‘s Claire – the desperate vice president of the Times Square Alliance who must deal with the stuck balloon problem – gives a heartwarming speech about pausing and thinking about what has happened over the year and how our lives have changed.
Not only are these sentiments grating and corny, but they are also superficial and reductive. But it works within the framework of the narrative of New Year’s Eve and its central message about how to make the most of every December 31. Leaving aside the soapiness, some of the film’s comedic elements manage to land gracefully. I’ll never get tired of watching Carla GuginoDr. Morriset threatens Seth Meyers‘Griffin with a rectal exam or Sarah Jessica ParkerKim gets grilled by her brother and daughter for using clogs. These little nuggets raise New Year’s Eve in its status as one of the most re-watchable guilty pleasures of all time.
For better or worse, “New Year’s Eve” will take you back to 2011
The cast that Marshall assembled to be a part of this film was, and still is, an impressive feat. Sofia Vergara And Sarah Paulson‘s careers were reaching new heights, with the former becoming comedy royalty in the role of Gloria in Modern familyand the latter beginning its path of ghosts in American Horror Story. In 2011, Parker had closed it Sex and the city era after the release of the second film. Katherine Heigl I had just gone out Grey’s Anatomy during its sixth season continuing its romantic comedy career.
The young stars of New Year’s Eve the actors were also at their peak. Léa Michele was almost halfway through the defining period Joyand was able to show off her singing talents in the film – with Jon Bon Jovi nevertheless. Efron was in the twilight of his twink death, on the verge of becoming the best guy he is today. Additionally, this movie was Abigail BreslinIt’s a springboard towards more adolescent roles. So yes, basically everyone who was anyone in the late 2000s and early 2010s was part of New Year’s Eve. If you prefer to reminisce about the 2010s, the nostalgia this film evokes upon rewatching is unprecedented.

The already star-studded cast is joined by an all-star ensemble
As bad as it may be, New Year’s Eve There were not only many newcomers, but also some leading players. Oscar winners and nominees like Swank, De Niro, Pfeiffer and Halle Berry make the most of this clunky script. Berry, in particular, is one that stands out. As Aimee, a nurse whose only wish is for her boyfriend to return from the war, she brings gravitas to this otherwise superficial film. Yet the combined talents of this group motivate you to turn a blind eye to the film’s flaws.
For 14 straight years I watched New Year’s Eve December 31st was the worst tradition my family could imagine. But, in the whirlwind of the final hours of each passing year, it is a moment that I cherish deeply. So wherever you are, thank you, Garry Marshall, for the guiltiest pleasures of this and every holiday season..
