107 Houses evacuated when the Lake Fire Long continues to burn in the county of Annapolis

More than a hundred houses have been evacuated as a forest fire in Annapolis County continues to burn on Friday morning.

The fire broke out on Wednesday on the north side of Long Lake near West Dalhousie on Wednesday, NS, about 20 kilometers east of Annapolis Royal. The provincial ministry of natural resources said that a lightning strike had caused the fire.

According to the Canadian map of the forest fire information system, the Long Lake fire was estimated Thursday evening at 486 hectares, or approaching five square kilometers – against 300 hectares around noon on Thursday.

An evacuation prescription was extended Thursday evening and now applies to:

  • The intersection of the Dalhousie road at 484 Morse RD.
  • West Dalhousie Road of Civic Addresses 4530 to 6186.
  • La route Thorn de Civic addresses 2648 to 3408.
  • Medicfraft Lane with civic addresses 122, 126 and 126 unit 2.

In an interview with CBC Information Morning Nova Scotia On Friday, Dustin Enslow, deputy director of the Municipality of the County of Annapolis, said that 107 houses had been evacuated, affecting 215 people.

“Overall, the spirits are quite high,” said Enslow about the evacuated. “They believe that we do our best and try to support them as best we can.”

An alert issued at 7:42 p.m. Thursday told the evacuates to leave or risk injuries or loss of lives. Evacués must register at Bridgetown Fire Hall at 31 Bay RD., And can call 1-833-806-1515 for more information.

ENSLOW said that a comfort station had been installed at the fire station, where people can stay during the day to load their phones and take a bite to eat.

A press release from the Municipality of the County of Annapolis urged people to take into account the evacuation notice.

“Don’t stay behind to help or because you don’t think that will affect you,” the statement said. “You put the lives of our brave stakeholders and firefighters in danger.

Natural Resources said Thursday that 30 of his firefighters and 10 local firefighters fighting against Long Lake.

Another fire burns in the Lake Hoyt region, just south of Long Lake, was estimated at one hectare, the department said. Seven natural resources and 10 local firefighters were on the scene with the support of planes.

Natural Resources said that a fire at Durland Lake Brook – near the county county of Annapolis – is estimated at 0.3 hectare. Six natural resources and 20 local firefighters work on the ground and a natural resource helicopter supports air.

Sporadic rain, thunderstorms

Enslow said there were sporadic rains through the county Thursday evening, some areas receiving a lot and others do not get. The Long Lake Fire site had little rain, he said.

According to Environment Canada, no other rain is planned in the region until Sunday evening, when there is a 30% chance of precipitation.

The national meteorological forecastist has published an air quality declaration for the county of Annapolis and in certain parts of the county of Halifax, claiming that the smoke of forest fires reduces air quality in the region, and that people who are more likely to be affected by smoke – including pregnant people, infants and young children, people suffering from chronic health problems and people working Outside – should avoid external activities seriously.
