1,000 match fees at an equal salary: Mithali Raj is thinking about the travel of the cricket of Indian women

Former captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket team Mithali Raj offered a convincing overview of the arduous trip but ultimately triumphant of female cricket in India.
Mithali Raj highlights the first difficulties of the Indian women’s team
In a recent appearance in the emission of Lallantop “Guest in the editorial hall”, “ The RAJ unveiled the Starkes realities faced by cricket players at a time when the national representation offered little financial award and basic equipment was a distant dream. Its frank reflections highlight the remarkable transformation that sport has suffered, leading to the current landscape of parity of salaries.
Raj recalled an era when Indian cricket players have endured difficult conditions, in particular while traveling in general train compartments due to a serious lack of financial support and recognition. The central contracts were nonexistent and the correspondence costs were practically unknown. “We did not obtain match costs because there was practically no money in sport. Even associations had no funds, so what the players could expect?” Raj said, highlighting deep financial constraints. The magnitude of these difficulties was clearly illustrated after the India finalist at the 2005 women’s world cricket cricket. Despite their commendable performances, each player received only 1,000 ₹ per game, or 8,000 ₹ for the entire eight game tournament. RAJ noted that the Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI) only introduced annual contracts much later.
The equal remuneration policy of the BCCI
The turning point arrived when the BCCI integrated female cricket under its field. This central decision has initiated a gradual but significant improvement in financial conditions. Initially, the players began to receive payments by series, which then evolved in compensation per match, marking the emerging stages of greater professionalism in sport.

In the following years, the BCCI implemented several progressive measures aimed at promoting gender equity in cricket. The introduction of central contracts was a crucial step, followed by coherent efforts to align the facilities and the awards for male and female teams. A monumental step has been taken with the implementation of equal correspondence costs, ensuring that male and female cricket players now receive identical remuneration: 15 Lakh for a test match, 6 Lakh for an ODI and 3 Lakh for an international T20. This historical decision means an era long -awaited for equality and recognition in Indian cricket.
The coherent performances of the Indian female team on the international scene have also resulted in greater awards. After their second finalist at the ODI 2017 World Cup, each player obtained 50 Lakh ₹ by the BCCI, with additional incentives from various governments of the States. Mithali, who led the team during this successful campaign, attributed this progress directly to the increased orientation and support of post-Takeover BCCI.
