10 years after what many thought would be her final appearance as Oscar-winning Katniss Everdeen Jennifer Laurent finally returns to The Hunger Games franchise. News broke last night that she and Jennifer Lawrence hunger games costar, Josh Hutchersonare set to reprise their roles as Katniss and Peeta in the franchise’s next installment, Sunrise over the harvest. The film is currently scheduled for release on November 20, 2026 and will serve as a prequel to the hunger games films that Lawrence and Hutchinson starred in in the mid-2010s. Details about their roles are being kept under wraps, but their appearances are expected to be some sort of flash-forward sequence.
Sunrise over the harvest will tell the story of a young Haymitch Abernathy on the eve of the 50th Hunger Games competition. Lionsgate has launched the casting Joseph Zada in the lead role of Haymitch Abernathy, and the former Hamish actor is not expected to Woody Harrelson will appear in the film in any way. Other cast members include Maya Hawke, Glenn Close, Elle Fanning, Jesse Plemonsand more. François Laurent returns to direct the next installment in the Hunger Games franchise, based on the Suzanne Collins novel of the same name released earlier this year in March.
