Kara Smythe, MD, has been working in sexual and reproductive health for over 10 years. Dr. Smythe is a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and its interests include improving maternal health, access to contraception and the promotion of sexual health.
She graduated from Magna Cum Laude de la Florida International University with a baccalaureate in biology and obtained her diploma in medicine at St. George de la Grenada University. She finished her residence in obstetrics and gynecology at the Suny Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. She worked in Maine for six years, where she had the privilege of taking care of a poorly served population.
Smythe is also passionate about how public health policies shape individual health results. She holds a master’s degree in health of the population of the University College of London and recently obtained a master’s degree in research methods in the social sciences at the University of Cardiff. She is currently working on her doctorate in medical sociology. His research examines the experiences of people of access, use and stopping reversible contraception with prolonged action.
When she doesn’t work, Smythe likes to dance, photograph and spend time with her family and cat, Finnegan.
