Who is ultraman in James Gunn’s Superman? The torsion of the villain, explained

This article contains spoilers For “Superman”.

Superman’s endènem is, without a doubt, Lex Luthor. But the problem that the films have always encountered is that Luthor is a normal guy; A Superman punch and it is dust. So how do you make Lex have TO-TOE toe with the steel man? Traditionally, there have been two options: either put Lex in a armor costume, or give it a superpowing executor.

Superman’s films have always been with the latter, and James Gunn’s new “Superman” is no different. Lex’s muscle (Nicholas Hoult) is ultraman. Yes, rumors were true, ultraman do appear in “Superman” as a wicked key. However, it is a little different from the comic book version.

During “Superman”, Ultraman remains silent and wears a complete black suit, with a mask with glasses resembling Doomsday.

But the clues of his real me are not subtle. He has the same powers as Superman (David Corenswet); Flight, strength, heat vision, etc. He also wears a “U” badge on his chest, reflecting the Superman “S” costume. Lex is also either way Capable of entering the fortress of solitude with Ultraman, even if it only opens for the signing of Superman’s DNA. In the third act, Ultraman and Superman crash together in the ground. Ultraman tears his ruined mask, revealing Superman’s face looking at the hero.

You see, Lex managed to get his hands on a superman’s hair of a battle scene. He used it to make a (much less intelligent) clone of the hero. Do not worry, however, because at the end of the film, Ultraman is thrown into a black hole; Difficult to even imagine someone as hard as coming back that.

There is a precedent for an evil superman called Ultraman in DC Comics. However, in the comics, Ultraman is the Clark Kent of a parallel universe (“Earth-3”) where justice League is villains called the crime union. This ultraman appeared in some other DC films and television, such as the 2010 animated film “Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths”, where it was expressed by Brian Bloom and characterized as a mafia boss with superpowers. (“Superman via Tony Soprano”, says the film script.)

This Ultraman is rather part of a long trend of evil mirrors at Superman in “Superman” films.
