Warwick Davis returns to Harry Potter in the new HBO television series

The next HBO Harry Potter The television series threw a familiar face to play the professor of Hogwarts Filius Flitwick.

Warwick Davis, who played Flitwick in the original Harry Potter Film Series, will resume the role of the television series, which will make its debut on HBO and HBO Max in 2027.

Davis is the only actor (so far) to return to the same role for the restart of television as the original films. His return to the franchise was announced as part of the annual event Back to Hogwarts, which is held on September 1 and celebrates the franchise.

In addition to Davis, HBO has also announced castings for seven other roles in the next series:

  • Hogwarts students – Elijah Oshin like Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens like Vincent Crabbe and William Nash like Gregory Goyle
  • Hogwarts staff – Sirine Saba as professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden as professor Cuthbert Binns and Bríd Brennan as Madam Poppy Pomfrey
  • Gringotts – Leigh Gill like Griphook

HBO was active in the casting of the show during the summer, starting with the new actors playing Harry, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, with John Lithgow playing Dumbledore, Janet McTeer, Professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu playing Professor Severus Snape and Nick Frost playing Hagrid, among other roles.

The new Harry Potter The series is now in production and will adopt a larger approach to the original series of books by the author JK Rowling, plunging into scenarios that could not be included in the films. While the casting is new, the inclusion of Davis as a professor of Hogwarts Charms provides connective tissue between the original film franchise and the next series.

Davis also portrayed Griphook in the films franchise but does not come back for the role in the television series. The actor also appeared in the Star Wars And Elf franchises as well as the title character in Willow.

The series is written and produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will produce and produce several episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is produced by Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Itts by Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Yeille films.
