1 dead after an accident on the highway. 87 in San Jose – NBC Bay Area

A man was arrested Wednesday evening in San Jose for allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian with his car while driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said.

About 7:15 p.m., a 57-year-old San Jose resident was driving his Hyundai on the northbound transition ramp between Highway 87 and Interstate 280 when he lost control of his car and struck a man in his 40s who was standing on the right shoulder, CHP Officer Ross Lee said. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Lee, the Hyundai driver allegedly drove under the influence and was arrested. The driver’s name was not immediately released.

The collision caused the ramp to be closed for about three hours while investigators studied the scene, Lee said.
